What the planner sends and keeps
When you press Plan my run, the stops you typed (names, directions, minutes, times) are sent to our server in the body of the request, used to work out the run, and sent back to you on the result page. They are not written to a database or a file, and they are not in the web address, so they do not appear in server access logs. There are no accounts and no addresses.
Kept on your device, only if you ask
The button "Keep these stops on this device" stores the form in your browser's own storage on that device, so you can fill it in again next time. It never leaves your device unless you plan a run with it. Clear it with your browser's site-data settings.
What the server does keep
- Request counters: to stop the planner being run thousands of times a minute, it counts plans per hour for each network address (for IPv6, each /64 network), and keeps one total for the whole site per day, which holds no address. The address is stored only as a salted one-way hash, and the counters are deleted after three days.
- Web server logs: like any website, the hosting server records each request's address, time, page and browser for security and troubleshooting. Plans are sent in the request body, which is not logged.
- Cookies: one cookie holds a security token for the planner form. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, no third-party fonts and no analytics services. The only thing any page loads from another site is the small adengine.us ad described under Advertising.
Advertising
The home page, How it decides, Pricing and the empty planner form show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. A planned run, a form sent back to fix, and the privacy and terms pages show no ad, so your stops are never on a page with an ad.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your network address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests. The ad also counts one page view per page, kept only as a daily total for this site.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your network address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (network address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
Payments
No payment is taken during the preview. When checkout opens it will run through PayPal, and this page will say what is kept about a subscription before then.
